Since I last blogged, Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize and bombed the moon, built an unbeatable coalition to drive sweeping health-care reform and utterly lost health-care reform, re-regulated Wall Street and stepped in to run Haiti. There can be no excuse- except perhaps my next post explaining the continents, organisations, discoveries, conferences and festivals that lay between then and now, and my deepest commitment to the Internet that I will never abandon it again unless the dice are running unexpectedly hot, in which case I promise to roll the windows down a notch and bring it back a Pepsi.

Is it ok to use the phrase “that is so post 911″ yet? Or do we have to wait a while? I’m pretty sure it would be perjorative term- but I’m not yet sure if it would refer to cultural icons of the 2001-2005 period (blogging, ipods, evangelicals etc) or to broader social trends; the fear mongering, religious division, totalitarian government and repression of individualism that the next generations will look back at with utmost distain. Either way I look forward to it’s employ.

Going to return to blogging with a vengence- and will move or rebuild this page so it looks a little less, well, post 911. Still figuring out the new focus. Should it be poetic, direct, honest, academic, referential, ironic, comprehensive, crafted or raw? Pictures of me photoshopped infront of various must-see landmarks? Serious social commentary with an erratic use of semi-colons and stresses on humanity? A sprawling, link-heavy inundation laden with whatever it is I happen to be learning about, experiencing or stumbling upon? Or perhaps I shall leverage my position as a Hill staffer to describe the goings-on of the political establishment in Washington, through a mixture of heady political discourse and hushed up sexual reference?

In case we lost touch in my recent evanesce mail me at arthur¿dt?josephson¿at?gmail¿dt?com.

I was engaging in a little blog narcissism by checking out where people come to this site from. Besides the nomadlife motherland and google searches for my name there are a few little x-files mysteries in this list. This blog appears

2nd when searching for; “rain defeat”:
9th when searching for: “Battle of Forum Gallorum”
6th when searching for: arthur, humanity (a fundamental victory on all but 5 other Arthurs)
6th when searching for: listen, hallelujah, jeff buckley, blog: # 6
2nd when searching for: liter, figher (in arabic)

Im not sure if its weirder that my blog appears under these searches at all or that people who were obviously looking for something specific thought my site would deliver anything relevant. And what is Liter Figher? A little Egyptian help?

I have a quiet weekend in R’dam and some major thinking to do; contemplating next steps, philosophizing on some fundamentals and generally resolving things. I will be listening to a lot of Slowhill (Finnish) and Anima Sound System (Hungarian), reading much Herman Hesse and VS Naipaul, meditating and answering questions by releasing white and black smoke for yes and no, Papal style.

Peace to all of you who stand at a cross roads knowing life will never again be the same. Weekend Up.

Why blog? I’ve been a blogosceptic for some time now. I fear that blogs will inevitably become self-obsessed and become long descriptions of the parts of us that we wish gained more attention. Or that it will be a depository for the endless minutia of my life and thoughts. Or maybe in an attempt to please some concept of the reader it will become hollow and lifeless. Perhaps this is true. But three things drew me on regardless. One, I dont have the time to write long, edited newsletters to my friends as I once did. Two, surely the blog medium has some art in it as is evidenced often in this nomadlife community. Three, writing is better than not writing and the good will come with the bad- accept it or forever be one the verge of expression.

If “Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance” was a blog it would surely be the best blog in the world. The novel combines a mans roadtrip across the Rockies, a journey through 2,000 years of Western philosophy, and a man wrestling with becoming his true self. I think this is the key to blogging, to combine the journey, with the message and the personal tale. N.B. If I start blogging about Quality and how to adjust the petrol intake on your bike then Im stealing and must be stopped. Down Phaedrus.
